2011 is the year that the Mesilla Valley Historical Museum Foundation begins its public effort to build a museum. The Foundation plans to locate the museum in Mesilla and is currently exploring potential locations.

The scope of the museum is the history of the Mesilla Valley. This mission distinguishes the project from other museums in Southern New Mexico, which concentrate on city histories or specific subjects.
