| NEWS RELEASE - "Mesilla Museum
Project" Date: June 6, 2010 On August 19, 2009, a 50l(C) (3) Not-for-Profit Organization IRS Certificate was issued to a group of local individuals to promote and build a museum in the Town of Mesilla. The group is known as the "Mesilla Valley Historical Museum Foundation". When the original concept was conceived, the members wanted to build a museum specifically oriented toward the history of Mesilla. Now that the Amador Hotel restoration project will no longer include a museum as originally envisioned, the Foundation believes this presents them with the opportunity to follow up with another museum plan that would incorporate the entire history of the valley. It would still be located in Mesilla where the history of the Mesilla Valley lies. The Foundation along with most of the community believes that a "Mesilla Valley Historical Museum" would enhance the drawing power to the community and promote economic growth in the area. Now that the "Mesilla Valley Historical Museum Foundation" is completely certified, they will begin a public relations and fund raising effort. Before this begins, property for the museum must be identified and a building concept developed. The goal is to attract funds from all areas of the community to plan and build the museum that will house displays and information on the history of the Mesilla Valley. Donations are being sought in the form of cash or pledges. They are also seeking historical relics, photographs, and family history information. Volunteers are also needed for Event Planning, Website Maintenance, a Newsletter and Fund Raising. If you are interested in assisting the "Mesilla Valley Historical Museum Foundation" with this project, please contact any of the individuals listed below.
